Listen to the latest version of the Electric Piano Demo
It’s been two months since I started documenting my music-making journey on X and Substack! I’m glad I kept it up and am proud to be here still, even though this is just starting. These last two weeks have been the ones where I have made the least progress so far. Why is this?
The main reason is that I’ve been on vacation with my family from August 1st to August 13th. I wanted to spend time with them, as I would return to the US and not see them until December, and that’s more important than music to me. Despite this, I still dedicated at least a few minutes to music most days just to keep the momentum going. When I came back to the US, my electric guitar broke, and I’m getting it fixed as I write this, which hasn’t been great. I’ve also moved apartments and had much to do in that aspect.
But I also need to be honest with myself. I just haven’t dedicated enough time. The conditions haven’t been ideal, but I could have done a better job. On the one side, I keep in mind that I do this as a hobby and don’t want to feel forced to make music. However, I know it’s essential to be consistent and put in the hours—sometimes great ideas bloom when you feel uninspired but still sit down and try things out.
What I’m happiest about from those days is writing some lyrics (including some for the 114 GMAJ indie rock demo, which will likely be the first to be released). I was stuck for a few days, but I remember I sat down one morning and felt very inspired for a couple of hours. That was satisfying, and I felt proud of myself for putting in the time despite feeling discouraged.
Apart from that, I’ve made a few adjustments to the abovementioned demo and have also been working on the “electric piano” demo. I’ve struggled with the chorus, as I couldn’t make it sound different from the verse without achieving a strange-sounding result. However, I’ve gotten a decent result by adding some guitars, slightly modifying the electric piano pattern, and adding some regular pianos.
I’m optimistic that the next few weeks will be more productive, and I’ll be more disciplined with music. Thanks for reading! I’d love your feedback on my music and my writing!
